Strand Releasing jumps to ‘Leap’

Film unit acquires rights to Rowe's pic

Strand Releasing has acquired US rights to Michael Rowe’s “Leap Year” (Año Bisiesto) from Pyramide International and plans a release early next year.

Story centers on a 25-year-old journalist and her intense sexual relationship with a man she meets after a long string of one night stands.

The film was shown at Directors’ Fortnight and won the Caméra d’Or in Cannes. It’s the debut for Rowe, an Australian native has resided in Mexico for over 16 years.

“It’s a metaphor for the complex victimizer-victim dichotomy that I think is the very heart of Mexican national identity,” Rowe said.
