Indian loop to add 23 screens
LONDON — India’s SRS cinema chain opened a four screen at Patiala, Punjab on Thursday and announced plans for countrywide expansion.
With the addition of the Patiala multiplex, the group now has 27 screens in six locations across three states. The company plans to invest 500 million rupees ($11 million) to add another 23 screens by the end of the year, bringing the total to 50.
SRS differs from its competitors in that it operates entire service malls that include multiplex cinemas, retail chains, food courts and clubs. All these services are operated by the group itself and not outsourced or leased out.
The market leader is Reliance Big Cinemas, which operates 253 screens.
