Prince Hitachi will award her the Praemium Imperiale for film

TOKYO — Sophia Loren will receive Japan’s Praemium Imperiale for theater and film in a ceremony on Oct. 13 attended by Prince Hitachi, honorary patron of Japan’s Art Assn., which hands out the annual awards.

Other recipients are artist Enrico Castellani, concert pianist Maurizio Pollini, sculptor Rebecca Horn and architect Toyo Ito.

Carrying prizes of 15 million yen ($169,000) each, the awards recognize lifetime achievement in the arts in categories not covered by the Nobel Prizes.
