Sony pacts with Anyplex

Deal covers film releases in Hong Kong

Sony Pictures Television has signed a deal to distribute films in Hong Kong via television video-on-demand service Anyplex, using its embedded iDTV and set-top boxes.

“The launch of Sony Pictures Television’s content on our VOD service establishes a milestone for Anyplex, where customers could enjoy Hollywood movies instantly at home at any time,” Anyplex CEO Ringo Lam Wing-kwan said in a statement.

Titles in the deal include “2012,” “Julie and Julia,” “Michael Jackson’s This is It,” “Angels and Demons” and “An Education.”

Anyplex partners with local set-top-box and iDTV manufacturers, then marks its streaming service to be embedded in TVs or set-top boxes. Anyplex is independent of any Internet service provider or pay TV channel.
