Film unit launches competition for British screenwriters
Shine Pictures, the joint venture between the U.K.’s Kudos Pictures and Hollywood producer-financier New Regency, is launching The Big Idea, a competition for British writers.
The contest, which aims to “discover ingenious concepts with global appeal,” is looking for genres films — romantic comedies, action-adventures, sci-fi, fantasy pics and family laffers.
The winner will be awarded a development deal with Shine Pictures, which is run by Kudos Pictures’ Paul Webster and Stephen Garrett.
Kudos Pictures, which produced “Eastern Promises” and “Brighton Rock” among other pics, is part of Elisabeth Murdoch’s Shine Group.
