Ford's shingle shifts 'Skyline,' 'Insidious' at Berlin

Stuart Ford’s IM Global is enjoying a bumper market, with the international sales company virtually selling out the Strause brothers’ “Skyline” and James Wan’s “Insidious.”

“Skyline,” the soph directorial effort of special-effects gurus Colin and Greg Strause, tells the story of a group of partygoers who awake to discover a mysterious bright light outside. They investigate the source, only to be faced with a terrifying revelation.

Pic has sold to 24 territories including Momentum in the U.K., Aurum in Spain, Eagle in Italy, Wild Bunch in Germany, SND in France, Alliance in Canada and Nordisk in Scandinavia.

Scottie Thompson stars in the vfx-heavy pic opposite Eric Balfour and Donald Faison.

The Strause brothers previously directed “Aliens vs. Predators — Requiem” and worked on the vfx for “Avatar” and “2012” through the Hydraulx vfx house.

James Wan’s “Insidious,” which is produced by the creative teams behind “Paranormal Activity” and the “Saw” franchise, has sold to 19 territories.

Canada’s Alliance has acquired the film for Canada, the U.K. (Momentum) and Spain (Aurum). Icon has acquired the film for Australia, Film Auro in Italy, Wild Bunch in France and Scream in Korea.

Pic, which is produced by Jason Blum, Oren Peli and Steven Schneider, tells the story of a family who realizes that the body of their comatose child has become a conduit for supernatural beings.

“We saw bidding between the guys who had either the ‘Saw’ films or ‘Paranormal Activity’ so we’ve been able to get even more than our asking price in some cases,” said Stuart Ford.

IM Global is also pushing ahead with a new alliance with Indian major Reliance Big Pictures.

In the first phase of the partnership IM Global will sell Reliance’s Indian slate of pics, including “3 Idiots” and “Kites.”

In the next phase, Ford’s company will work with Reliance on the Hollywood projects emanating from the company’s various development silos, with the likes of George Clooney, Tom Hanks and Jim Carrey.

The alliance establishes IM Global as a major player in the international sales biz.
