British TV producer Antony Root has been tapped as market topper by Italy’s Rome Fiction Festival, the TV-centric event that will feature BBC titles “Stones in Exile” (about the Rolling Stones) and John Lennon biopic “Lennon Naked” among highlights of its official selection.
Root is a former Granada Entertainment USA prexy and European production topper for Sony Pictures Television Intl.
Announcement was made at the Mip TV mart in Cannes.
Root’s appointment is a clear indication that the Eternal City’s budding TV shindig is gunning to gain cachet on the international circuit.
Headed by former Turin fest topper Steve Della Casa, the TV event last year launched the RomaTVScreenings for Italian content alongside its popular pitching sessions held by former Banff TV fest topper Pat Ferns.
While pushing Italo skeins beyond local borders remains key, the Rome mart is now broadening its scope.
Also set for a Rome slot is shock doc “The Game of Death” from Gallic pubcaster France 2, about a fake TV gameshow where contestants administered electric shocks.
The fourth Rome Fiction Festival will run July 5-10.
