Entertainment prizes to be decided by public vote
MUMBAI — India’s Reliance Broadcast Network and Rupert Murdoch’s Star India have joined forces to create the Big Star Entertainment Awards.
The two media congloms will pool their extensive resources in India to promote the awards, which will be given in the categories of movies, music, live theater and sports.
The awards will feature no juries or experts but will be given solely on the results of public voting that will be done through mobile text messaging and online voting.
The alliance will marry Reliance’s extensive radio and digital penetration in India with Star’s television network that reaches more than 400 million viewers.
The awards will air on the Star Plus channel on Dec. 31.
