One Potato taps Rooney to drum up biz
Gordon Ramsay wants a bigger slice of the U.S. TV biz.Ramsay’s One Potato Two Potato production shingle has opened an office in Santa Monica, run by U.K. unscripted TV vet Adeline Ramage Rooney. Rooney, veep of programs and development for One Potato, has set up a number of food-centric development projects since she arrived in town in February. Ramsay is exclusive in the U.S. to Fox, where he is the net’s resident foodie, but he is deeply involved in developing One Potato projects as an exec producer. “Our focus is immediately to build on our strength, which is Gordon and food,” Rooney told Daily Variety. “We’re looking at some exciting talent in the food genre and taking food and other areas of unscripted TV to come up with some exciting cocktails for shows.” One Potato’s first U.S. project will be the Ramsay-fronted cooking competish “Master Chef,” which it’s co-producing with Reveille and Shine. The show is in the early stage of production for a bow later this year. Ramsay, who also fronts Fox’s “Hell’s Kitchen” and “Kitchen Nightmares,” has a standing commitment to develop a project with Fox for which One Potato is fielding ideas. Ramsay launched One Potato in 2008 as a joint venture with U.K. production powerhouse Optomen Television, home of his many Brit TV programs. Rooney comes to One Potato after serving as a commissioning editor for Channel 4, where she worked with Ramsay on his yak show “The F Word.” She also has a long resume as a producer and has helped shepherd a number of successful global TV formats, such as “Master Chef,” “How to Look Good Naked” and “You Are What You Eat.”
