Pusan fest unveils Asian Cinema Fund recipients

Some 27 projects will get monetary support

South Korea’s Pusan Film Festival has announced this year’s recipients of the Asia Cinema Fund awards, the program that supports Asian independent feature and documentaries.

This year, 27 projects were selected, with a strong showing from Southeast Asia, including Korean helmer Ahn Seul-ki’s “Powwow” and Indonesian helmer Yogi D. Sumule’s “The Southern Route.”

ACF has three categories: the Script Development Fund, Post Production Fund and the Asian Network of Documentary Fund.

Fest also bowed an $8,300 award for Asian Film Academy graduates within the Script Development Fund, which went to Thai helmer Phuttiphong Aroonpheng’s “Departure Day.”

Among past recipients of ACF support are Filipino helmer Brillante Mendoza’s Cannes competition player “Service” in 2008, and Thai helmer Aditya Assarat’s “Wonderful Town,” which won the Tiger Award at Rotterdam the same year.
