LONDON — Pathe International has rolled out more than 60 sales across its slate, leading with its long-gestating animation “Gnomeo & Juliet.”
The CGI pic, directed by “Shrek 2’s” Kelly Asbury and exec produced by Elton John and David Furnish, sold in 26 territories including Latin America (Gussi), the CIS (West Video), South Korea (Showbox), Poland (ITI), Czech Republic and Hungary (Hollywood Classics), South Africa (Ster Kinekor), Middle East (Phars), Turkey (Tiglon), Romania and Bulgaria (MediaPro), Singapore (Golden Village), Portugal (Lusomundo) and Iceland (Myndform). It will be released domestically by Touchstone Pictures in February 2011 and a U.K. deal is expected to follow shortly.
Paolo Sorrentino’s first English-language pic “This Must Be the Place,” starring Sean Penn, pre-sold to Latin America, Benelux, Poland, Switzerland, the Middle East, South Korea, Greece and Taiwan.
Luca Miniero’s Italian remake of Dany Boon’s $254 million-grossing “Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis” — “Benvenuti al Sud” — sold to Spain, Poland, Greece, Portugal and South Korea.
Boon’s “Nothing to Declare” (Rien a declarer) sold to Valentim in Portugal, Hagi in Poland and West Video for the CIS, following sales earlier this year to Benelux, Switzerland Germany, Spain and Canada.
And Debs Gardner-Paterson’s “Africa United,” which debuted at Berlin earlier this year, secured additional sales to Shaw for Singapore and Queen Imperial in Indonesia, while Olivier Baroux’s “The Italian” sold in Spain, Poland and the Middle East.
In other deals, Julian Schnabel’s “Miral” sold to Singapore and Taiwan; Sylvain Chomet’s “The Illusionist” sold in Poland; Zep’s 3D animation “Titeuf, The Film” sold in the Middle East; Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud’s “Oceans” sold to Poland; and Geraldine Nakache and Herve Mimran’s “Tout ce qui brille” sold to Singapore.
