French company inks multiple deals for Kiarostami
Gallic powerhouse MK2 has inked multiple sales deals for Abbas Kiarostami’s Cannes competition title “Certified Copy” across Europe and Latin America.Pic has sold to Spain’s Wanda Vision, the Middle East’s Media Intl. Pictures, Imovision for Brazil, Benelux’s Alternative Films, Netherlands’ Wild Bunch, Switzerland’s Praesens, Greece’s Seven Group, Poland’s Epelpol, ex-Yugoslavia’s MCF Megacom and Portugal’s Atalanta Filmes. BIM will release “Certified Copy” in Italy while Orlando Films handle distribution in Israel through a previously signed output deal with MK2. MK2 is currently in negotiations with all other key territories. Set and shot in Tuscany, pic follows a middle-aged English novelist who goes to Italy to promote his latest book and falls in love with French woman who owns a gallery. Pic marks helmer Abbas Kiarostami’s first venture outside of his native Iran. MK2 will next kick off production on Walter Salles’ “On the Road” on Aug. 2.
