BRUSSELS — French media group Millimages is selling its documentary business, Gedeon Programmes, for an undisclosed sum to SM Participations, the family holding company of Gedeon founder Stephane Milliere.
Millimages said in a statement that the sale was part of an effort to clear the company of debt.
Gedeon specializes in science and adventure docus, mainly for TV, although in 2006 it ventured into theatrical features with “The White Planet.”
This year it announced a move into 3D, with feature-length docu “The Adventurers of the Lost World” due to bow in 2011.
Millimages owns a 65% stake in Gedeon, which with business worth €7.7 million ($9.9 million) in 2009 contributed 25% of the group’s revenue.
