Michael Grindon to exit Sony Pictures TV

Head of international division to leave studio in March

Michael Grindon, head of international TV for Sony Pictures TV and a 24-year studio vet, will exit the Culver City lot in March.

Grindon broke the news in a memo to staffers on Thursday. His role as prexy of international was largely overtaken last March in a restructuring that saw Sony Pictures TV prexy Steve Mosko add international operations to his portfolio.

Grindon is credited with building Sony’s international biz from scratch after being named prexy of the wing in 1995. At present, Sony Pictures TV has 122 channels in 140 countries, as well as local production operations in 20 major territories.

“Michael created our international television business from the ground up,” said Michael Lynton, chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures. “We’ve seen steady growth in international television, which has been particularly significant to the entire studio.”

Grindon said he felt it was “the right moment for me to move on to the next challenge.” The exec joined what was then Columbia Pictures TV in 1986.

Mosko praised Grindon for building “a terrific team of international executives who will ensure continued strong business performance in the future.”
