Company sets up shop at Pinewood Studios

MasterImage 3D is expanding its operations with the opening of a European office at the U.K’s Pinewood Studios. The Los Angeles-based company, which focuses on stereoscopic 3D technology, is looking to get a handle on Europe’s burgeoning market for 3D digital cinema systems. Currently, MasterImage has more than 1,600 theatrical systems installed worldwide, with more than 500 of them in Europe. The company estimates that its theatrical market share in Europe is approximately 25 percent.

Though MasterImage’s main focus will be theatrical systems, the company is looking at the Pinewood Studios opening as a chance to build a European market for its mobile and flat-panel 3D displays, as well.

Joining MasterImage is Brian Kercher, formerly of Eastman Kodak, who will act as managing director of 3D cinema for MasterImage 3D Europe. Andrew Lee, who has been with MasterImage since 2009, will head technical operations of the European office.
