Nintendo shifts 10 million units in eight weeks

TOKYO — “New Super Mario Bros. Wii” for the Nintendo Wii console has sold 10 million units worldwide in just eight weeks, a new sales speed record for a single-console game.

“Super Mario Bros.” sold 3 million units in Japan, 4.5 million units in North America and 3 million in Europe, according to game biz mag Enterbrain.

First launched in 1985, the game has spawned several sequels and spin-offs as well as a TV series and a 1993 live-action pic.
