Lee Hall, Elton John team for ‘Farm’

Pair previously worked on 'Billy Elliot' musical

LONDON — Lee Hall and Elton John (“Billy Elliot”) are to re-team for a tuner version of George Orwell’s 1945 novella “Animal Farm.”

No producing team or talent are yet attached but Hall has been working on adapting the darkly comic satire on Stalinism for some time and plans to have lyrics by the fall to show John. According to news reports, Hall is not considering production until 2012 at the earliest.

The book has been adapted for the stage on numerous occasions in the U.K., including a 1986 hit National Theater production helmed by Peter Hall (no relation), but has never been presented as a tuner.

The tuner version of Hall’s original “Billy Elliot” movie, now in its sixth year in London, is also currently playing in New York and Chicago. It will open in Seoul next month and has a Toronto production skedded to begin previews on Jan. 28, 2011.
