YouTube will distribute French media conglom Lagardere Active’s content.
The three-year deal was announced at Mip TV on Monday by Lagardere’s prexy Didier Quillot and Henrique De Castro, VP of media for YouTube and its parent, Google.
Viewers will see the content for free. Google will monetize the videos with advertising revenue, which it will share with Lagardere.
“This strategic deal will allow Lagardere Active to monetize its content on the Web, strengthen the popularity of our top programs in France and promote them on the international level,” Quillot said. “We’ll also be able to retain total control over our programs thanks to Google’s identification and management tool, Content ID.”
The shows, including “Josephine ange gardien,” will be dubbed and subtitled in English in the appropriate territories.
