ROME — The Los Angeles-Italia Film Fashion and Art Fest will celebrate helmer Gabriele Salvatores, whose new feature “Happy Family” will world preem, and fete singer Andrea Bocelli, who will receive a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame during the event.
Bocelli, whose star will be unveiled on March 2, will join a highly select set of Italian artists — including Rudolf Valentino, Anna Magnani, Arturo Toscanini, Enrico Caruso and Sophia Loren — honored with this nod.
“Happy Family,” which marks Salvatores’ return to comedy after several dark pics, is a sophisticated laffer about two headstrong Milanese 15-year-olds who decide to marry causing their respective families to come into irate and absurdly close contact.
Producer Maurizio Totti will be on hand for the pic’s launch from L.A. along with Salvatores and star Fabio De Luigi. “Family” will open in Italy March 26 via RAI Cinema’s 01 Distribution arm.
The fifth edition of the pre-Oscars Italo cinema showcase running Feb. 28-March 6 at the Mann’s Chinese 6 Theatre is also dedicating a retro to Salvatores, winner of the 1991 foreign-language film Oscar for “Mediterreaneo.”
Other titles to unspool at Los Angeles-Italia include high-profile biopic “Memories of Anne Frank” by Alberto Negrin, starring young Rome-based U.S. thesp Rosabell Laurenti Sellers in the title role. This Italo-American co-production between Fulvio Lucisano and Avi Lerner’s Nu Image recently scored stellar ratings on pubcaster RAI.
Headed by RAI journo Pascal Vicedomini, Los Angeles-Italia, is a sister event of two Italian fests, Capri-Hollywood and Ischia Global, both dedicated to establishing a creative and business bridgehead between Hollywood and Italy’s film and showbiz communities.
