U.K. production house Kudos will help launch a division specializing in drama, led by a former producer of flagship BBC soap “EastEnders.”
Lovely Day, which will be run by Diederick Santer, aims to make shows for British audiences that can be spun off into series that will attract international partners.
He’ll manage, own and operate Lovely Day from Kudos’ London HQ aided by access to Kudos’ creative expertise, production and legal affairs teams.
Kudos, owned by Elisabeth Murdoch’s Shine, is one of Blighty’s most successful drama producers. Its output includes “Spooks” (aka “M-15” in the U.S.), “Life on Mars” and “Occupation.”
“I’ve had 10 fantastic years with BBC drama production … but I hope to be back making shows for the BBC before long and, of course, for other U.K. and international broadcasters too,” Santer said.
Jane Featherstone, Kudos’ creative director, said, “When we heard that Diederick was considering setting up a drama outfit, we leaped at the chance to be part of it. Diederick has a great track record in developing and producing top quality mainstream drama.”
