NBC Universal is rewarding Oxygen’s Jason Klarman with a hefty promotion.
Klarman, whose channel makeover has led to Oxygen’s rapid ratings growth among young women, has been named president of Oxygen Media.
Exec will continue to report to NBC U women/lifestyle entertainment networks prexy Lauren Zalaznick, who announced the promotion Wednesday.
Klarman, who had served as general manager of Oxygen Media since January 2008, will oversee the channel’s original programming and development.
“His ability to deliver a message that cuts through the clutter along with keen business acumen has driven the incredible double-digit growth at Oxygen these past 2 1/2 years,” Zalaznick said.
Under Klarman, Oxygen has grown its femme 18-34 audience by 119% and its women 18-49 viewership by 85%. Channel’s revenue has also grown by 30%.
Klarman took over as Oxygen g.m. two months after NBC U acquired the femme-centric channel. He soon introduced a rebrand, including the channel’s “Live Out Loud” tagline.
Klarman joined Oxygen from sister net Bravo, where he was exec VP of marketing and digital, helping rebrand that channel as well. Klarman’s collaboration with Zalaznick dates back to the now-defunct pop culture cabler Trio, where he was senior VP of marketing.
