Media conglom Kadokawa has unveiled an electronic reader that will eventually offer a wide range of media, from books to toons and pics.
Book Walker will bow in a beta version in December as an app on iPhones and iPads, graduating to a full-fledged version by April that will be available on everything from smart phones to PCs. The platform will officially launch in July.
In addition to its own lineup, Kadokawa is partnering with Ascii Media Works and nine other group companies to supply content, including books, comicbooks, magazines and visual content.
In its initial incarnation, Book Walker will offer 100 titles, expanding by 20 weekly, with users paying via their iPhones; it will also link users with social-media functions.
By 2014 Kadokawa expects to grow Book Walker to a $160 million biz and grab a 10% share of the electronic book market.
