Zandvliet to direct $3.8 million biopic

STOCKHOLM — Nikolaj Lie Kaas will topline in a biopic of Dirch Passer, regarded as Denmark’s greatest comedic thesp.

Kaas’ credits include leading roles in Lars von Trier’s “The Idiots” and Susanne Bier’s “Brothers.”

Martin Zandvliet will helm “Dirch,” which is produced by Michael Rieks for Koncern Film and Nordisk. Pic has a budget of 22 million Danish kroner ($3.8 million) and starts rolling in a couple of weeks. Script was written by Anders F. August.

Pic is scheduled to open late 2011.

Passer, who lived between 1926 and 1980, appeared in 110 features as well as appearing frequently on stage.
