GK Films is financing Angelina Jolie’s feature directorial debut, an untitled love story set against the backdrop of the Bosnian war.
Pic is based on an original script by Jolie, who will not appear in the movie.
Jolie announced the project last weekend during a visit to Bosnia to speak with government officials about the refugee crisis. Thesp was careful to say that she does not intend to make a political statement with the pic, which tells the story of a Serbian man and a Bosnian woman who meet on the eve of war and the effect the conflict has on their relationship.
Cast will comprise members of various ethnic groups from the former Yugoslavia, according to a statement from GK Films.
Jolie will produce the untitled pic with GK Films’ Graham King and King’s business partner, Tim Headington.
Trio most recently collaborated on “The Tourist,” which toplines Jolie and Johnny Depp. Columbia Pictures opens the film Dec. 10.
Other upcoming GK Films projects include Ben Affleck’s “The Town,” which Warner Bros. releases Sept. 17.
Jolie is repped by Media Talent Group.
