Berlin competition title “Jew Suss: Rise and Fall” has been acquired by Gaul’s UGC Distribution, Canada’s E1 Entertainment and Australia’s Vendetta Films.
Repped by Gallic mini-major TF1 Intl., Oskar Roehler’s pic tells the tragic fate of German actor Ferdinand Marian, who played a leading role in an anti-Semitic propaganda film instigated by Joseph Goebbels. Produced by Novotny & Novotny Filmproduktion and Clasart Film und Fernsehproduktion, the film is set in 1940 in Berlin.
Tobias Moretti (“Io, Don Giovanni”), Martina Gedeck (“The Lives of Others”) and Moritz Bleibtreu (“The Baader Meinhof Complex”) topline.
TF1 Intl. has also taken foreign rights outside France to doc “Gainsbourg by Gainsbourg, an Intimist Self-Portrait,” helmed by Pierre Henry Salfati and produced by Gallic company Zeta Prods.
At Berlin, the Paris-based company will show a promo reel of Kristin Scott Thomas’ “Love Crime,”a corporate thriller directed by Alain Corneau (“Some Kind of Blue”). TF1 Intl.’s Berlin slate also include Yasmina Reza’s “Chicas,” which will world preem in Berlin, Gerard Depardieu starrer “Dumas” and Joann Sfar’s “The Rabbi’s Cat.”
