Japanese network takes stake in Crunchyroll

TV Tokyo provides content for video-streaming site

TOKYO — TV Tokyo, the smallest of Japan’s five networks, has taken a $750,000 minority stake in toon streaming site Crunchyroll. Details of the deal, including the percentage of the stake, were not disclosed.

TV Tokyo is already providing Crunchyroll with content, including its hit “Naruto Shippuden” and “Tegami Bachi: Letter Bee” toons. Premium subscribs to the San Francisco-based site can access TV Tokyo toons only one hour after their broadcast in Japan.

Crunchyroll is also negotiating with what it describes as “a group of major Japanese book publishers” for a similar partnership arrangement.
