Pair may launch joint TV channel

MUMBAI — Indian broadcaster Zee and Russian media giant Sistema Mass-media signed a deal Thursday to help grow their businesses.

Under the agreement, Sistema will help Zee channels secure distribution on its affiliate networks. Zee in turn will facilitate the localization and distribution of some Sistema channels in India, Europe and North America.

The companies are also looking at acquiring each other’s programs, co-producing film and television content, and also launching a joint TV channel.

Zee has already aired a Hindi-dubbed version of popular series “Indian,” the first Russian program to be filmed in Bollywood, and is negotiating a deal for Sistema’s Hunting and Fishing channel to air in India. The company has a dedicated Russia and CIS channel, Zee Russia.
