In what is probably one of the biggest deals at the Cannes market, Icon Film Distribution picked up rights for helmer Walter Salles’ “On the Road” in the U.K., Ireland, Australia and New Zealand on Tuesday.
The TeleMunchen Group’s Concorde previously picked up the film for German-speaking territories and Cineart has signed on for the Benelux countries.
French mini-major MK2 will exec produce the $25 million pic, which has long been a passion project of Brazilian helmer Salles and Francis Ford Coppola, who acquired the rights to Jack Kerouac’s cult novel three decades ago.
Pic, which is co-produced with Film4 and Videofilmes, goes into production on Aug. 2.
It stars Sam Riley, Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart and Kirsten Dunst.
