Golden Sun, Shanda sign VOD deal

Pact covers 380-title library for online service

HONG KONG — Hong Kong’s Golden Sun Films has signed a $4.4 million deal with NASDAQ listed interactive group Shanda for the online rights to its film library.

Pics in the 380-title library, which includes Jet Li and Stephen Chow movies, will be rolled out on video-on-demand.

“This is very good for us and part of our policy of expanding in mainland China,” said Anita Chan, overseas distribution manager of Golden Sun.

Golden Sun was behind Gordon Chan’s “Painted Skin,” which took nearly $34 million in China two years ago. The company is currently working on Wilson Yip’s “A Chinese Ghost Story.”

Shanda produces some of China’s most popular multi-player online role-playing games and advanced casual online games in China, as well as online chess and board games, e-sports game platform and a variety of cartoons, literature works and music.
