Sophia Loren receives Tawny Tribute
MADRID — Vet Spanish helmer Carlos Saura’s “I, Don Giovanni” won the Vintage Selection competition at Portugal’s 2nd Douro Film Harvest, which closed Saturday.Saura’s first Italian-language film, reteaming him with cinematographer Vittorio Storaro, “Giovanni” charts the creative process behind the creation of Mozart’s opera and the long road to redemption of Casanova cohort and “Giovanni” librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte. Pic was produced by Andrea Occhipinti, Andres Vicente Gomez and Igor Uboldi. More of a Douro valley cultural showcase than competitive event, Douro offers only one prize. Beyond Saura, who also received a Casta d’Ouro Career Award, highlights included a live performance by Argentine composer-musician Gustavo Santaollala, who is currently working on the soundtrack of Walter Salles’ “On the Road.” Sophia Loren received a Tawny Tribute Saturday and talked up her latest film, her RAI-produced biopic “My House Is Full of Mirrors,” helmed by Vittorio Sindoni, in which she plays her own mother. The DFH ran Sept. 5-11.
