It picks up rights outside N. America to Gelb's doc

Fortissimo Films has acquired all rights outside of North America to David Gelb’s debut docu feature “Jiro Dreams of Sushi.”

Pic follows Tokyo sushi master Jiro Ono at his Michelin-starred restaurant, Sukiyabashi Jiro, as he attempts to create the perfect sushi, and his son, Yoshikazy, as he faces the pressure of taking over from his father at the legendary eaterie.

Pic is produced by David Gelb and exec produced by A Weaver/Pellegrini Prod.’s Matthew Weaver and Tom Pellegrini, Parlay Media’s Kevin Iwashina and Ross Dinerstein, and Sundial Pictures’ Stefan Nowicki and Joey Carey.

Iwashina is handling North American distribution rights with Weaver.

Deal was completed by Fortissimo chairman Michael J. Werner and senior VP, sales and acquisitions Winnie Lau and Kevin Iwashina of IP Advisors on behalf of the producers.
