Filmax lands deals on ‘Exorcismus’

U.K., Australia and Italy set distribution on horror film

Julio Fernandez’s Barcelona-based mini-major Filmax Entertainment has closed a tranche of pre-sales on Manuel Carballo’s English-language possession pic “Exorcismus.”

Main territory deals include U.K. rights to E1 Entertainment U.K., Vendetta in Australia and an Italo licensing pact with Mediafilm.

In all, Filmax has pre-sold a score or more territories. Higher-profile buyers include Poland’s Kinoswiat, Gussi for Mexico, and PlayArte in Brazil. “Exorcismus” has also closed Latin American pay TV (Lap TV).

Further deals include Gulf Film for the Middle East, Portugal’s Lusomundo and CDI for Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile.

Many of these distributors handled the Filmax-produced and -sold “REC 2.”

Filmax Intl., the overseas sales arm of Filmax, will present a new promo reel in Berlin.

Written by David Munoz (“The Devil’s Backbone”), “Exorcismus” stars Tommy Bastow and Sophie Vavasseur.

Atypical for a horror pic, “Exorcismus” is shot largely in daylight, which gives the film a gritty realism, said Vicente Canales, head of Filmax Intl.

Currently in post-production, “Exorcismus” will be ready for delivery by this September’s Toronto fest.
