ROME — Singaporean helmer Eric Khoo will head the jury of the 63rd Locarno Film Festival, the first edition of the Swiss fest under new artistic director Olivier Pere.Khoo, a hot Asian auteur since the mid-1990s thanks to pluriprized works including “Me Pok Man” and “12 Storeys,” will serve as president of the Locarno competition jury in a departure from previous rules under which the jury prexy was decided by the Locarno jury itself on the fest’s first day. The other members of Locarno’s main jury comprise U.S. helmer Joshua Safdie (“Go Get Some Rosemary”); Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani (“Body of Lies”); French actor Melvil Poupaud (“A Christmas Tale”); and Swiss helmer Lionel Baier (“Another Man.”) Concurrently the Swiss fest dedicated to international discoveries has recruited as jurors for its Filmmakers of the Present competition for first and second works Eduardo Antin, a former topper of the Buenos Aires Festival of Independent Film (Bafici), German helmer Maren Ade (“Everyone Else”), and Belgian helmer Joachim Lafosse (“Private Property”). Argentinian helmer Lisandro Alonso (“Liverpool”) will head the Pards of Tomorrow jury for shorts. Locarno will run Aug. 4-14.
