Distrib nabs U.K., Canadian rights to 3D toon

eOne Entertainment has picked up U.K. and Canadian rights to Pathe Intl.’s “Gnomeo and Juliet.”

The 3D toon, directed by “Shrek 2” helmer Kelly Asbury, is slated for a February release in Blighty and Canada. Touchstone Pictures will release the pic in the U.S. on Feb. 11.

Pic, produced by David Furnish and Steve Hamilton Shaw through Rocket Pictures and Disney’s Baker Bloodworth, depicts Shakespeare’s love story through the world of garden gnomes.

James McAvoy voices Gnomeo while Emily Blunt voices Juliet. A slew of top British names also lend their voices to the pic, including Michael Caine, Maggie Smith, Stephen Merchant, Ozzy Osbourne, Jason Statham and Matt Lucas.

Toon also includes songs from Elton John (an exec producer on the pic), which he penned with his longtime writing partner Bernie Taupin.
