E1 joins KISS for kids TV

Show's format remains undetermined

E1 is joining the KISS army.

Canadian production shingle will team with band founding members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley on an untitled kids TV series. Subject matter of the half-hour skein is still undetermined, and there’s still debate about whether the show will be live action, animated or a combination of both.

The longevity of KISS, which was formed in 1973, is remarkable, and the band continues to tour with pyrotechnic-heavy live performances. The band reached an audience of more than 30 million last May when it played on the season finale of “American Idol.”

“We’re honored to be involved in carrying on the KISS legacy,” said Frank Saperstein, senior VP of kids and animation for E1. “It’s wonderful to collaborate with the creative forces behind one of the greatest rock bands of all time and unquestionably one of the most recognized worldwide.”

Simmons currently appears on A&E in reality skein “Gene Simmons: Family Jewels.” Series follows Simmons, his companion Shannon Tweed and their two children. Season four ended in August.

John Morayniss, Frank Saperstein, Simmons and Stanley will exec produce. E1 and KISS will handle all licensing and merchandise for the series.
