Canadian company gets first look at Hayter and Carver's projects
Dark Hero Studios has inked a two-year TV production deal with Toronto-based E1 Entertainment, starting with the sci-fi series “Push.”
E1 gets first look at all TV projects — including network, cable and syndication scripted shows — developed by Dark Hero toppers screenwriter David Hayter (“X-Men,” “The Scorpion King”) and his producer partner Benedict Carver (“Doomsday”), a former Variety scribe and former senior VP at Screen Gems. Dark Hero will set up shop at E1’s Los Angeles outpost.
The recently announced “Push” is based on last year’s Summit Entertainment feature about political activists with paranormal powers, to be jointly developed and produced by Summit, Dark Hero and E1. Though “Push” grossed just $31.8 million domestically, some genre-themed projects have fared better on TV.
Hayter will script the pilot with Carver producing and E1’s John Morayniss and Noreen Halpern as exec producers.
A multiplatform genre content producer, Dark Hero is gearing up for Hayter’s feature helming bow, “Wolves,” while Carver recently exec-produced “Stomp the Yard” followup “Beat the World,” which E1 will distribute in Canada, the U.K. and Scandinavia.
“David has a truly unique voice and has created incredible, unforgettable worlds in so many features,” said E1 dramatic TV programming prexy Halpern. “Crossing that voice over into television with the benefit of E1’s development strengths is sure to produce something innovative and amazing.”
