Lawsuit targets websites that steal content
Tokyo — A coalition of U.S. and Japanese manga publishers are joining together to battle online piracy of their material.The coalition includes the 36 members of Japan’s Digital Comic Assn. as well as Square Enix, San Francisco-based Viz Media, Los Angeles-based Tokyopop, New York-based Vertical, the Tuttle-Mori Agency and Yen Press. Their opponents are pirates that scan comics and post them on websites that earn coin from ads, donations and membership fees, none of which go to copyright holders. The coalition has targeted 30 unidentified sites for legal action if they refuse to remove pirated material.
