Tokyo Contents Market and Licensing Asia join forces

Tokyo Contents Market and Licensing Asia — two events under the umbrella of the Japan Contents Festival (Cofesta) are planning to merge, according to a recent government contents strategy paper.

The former, a mart for toons, games, CG, pics and character goods, is sponsored by the Kanto Bureau of Economy Trade and Industry, a government org. The latter, which attracts everything from character licensing majors to small venture outfits, both foreign and domestic, is sponsored by the Intl. Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Assn., a private industry org.

The merger will save costs for Cofesta and create a market more appealing to overseas buyers.

Cofesta is an umbrella org for events that promote Japanese contents abroad. Last year 18 events unspooled under the Cofesta banner from Sept. 24 to Oct. 28, including the Tokyo Game Show, the Tiffcom pic and TV market and the Tokyo Film Festival. The Tokyo Contents Market and Licensing Asia were held concurrently Oct. 14-16 at the Tokyo Intl. Exhibition Center.
