Indian multiplex operator to have 200 screens by 2013
MUMBAI — Indian multiplex operator Cinemax plans to invest 1 billion rupees ($22 million) to nearly double its screens to 200 by 2013.
The chain operates 105 screens in 33 cinemas across 18 cities. It will add 30 screens by March.
The leading exhib is billionaire Anil Ambani’s Reliance Big Cinemas, which has 260 screens in 103 cinemas in 80 cities.
Reliance and rival Inox are fighting for control of multiplex chain Fame, while the other major player, PVR, also plans to expand to more than 200 screens by 2011. – — Naman Ramachandran
