International industryites to be invited

BEIJING – China will add a major new film event, the Beijing International Film Season, to its annual calendar in April, and organizers hope to lure influential foreign talent to the show.

The Film Season, which will run April 23-28, will feature a red-carpet event, industry forums, a trade show, a market and a music concert. It will be co-organized by the Beijing municipal government and the State Administration of Radio, Film & Television (SARFT).

The fest will incorporate Beijing’s current main film event, the Beijing Screenings, which are held in September, but which have not achieved international profile in the same way as other Chinese events, such as the Shanghai Film Festival.

“The event will provide a platform for the film industry of Beijing to step into the world, and become one of the key events for Beijing’s development as an international city,” said one event organizer.

Foreign guests, including producers, helmers, distribs and stars, will be invited to the event and the aim is to boost the co-production biz in China.
