Buck to helm ‘Woman in Love’

German comedy stars Matthias Schweighoefer

BERLIN — Detlev Buck, who last directed the cross-cultural love story “Same Same But Different,” will next helm “Woman in Love,” starring German thesp Matthias Schweighoefer (“Friendship”).

The comedy follows a desperate actor who is mistakenly offered a high-profile female role in a Hollywood film and decides to take it anyway, dressing up “Tootsie”-style for the part. Alexandra Maria Lara (“Farewell”) co-stars.

Berlin-based Film1 is producing with nearly $1 million in support from regional funder Filmfoerderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein and the German Federal Film Board.

Pic is based on a screenplay by Anika Decker, who penned Til Schweiger’s hit romantic comedy “Rabbit Without Ears” and its sequel. – — Ed Meza
