Exec was formerly at Alchemy, 12 Yard, BBC
LONDON — U.K. independent producer Mike Beale has been tapped by NBC Universal as its veep of international television production.
Beale, who headed up the reality division of U.K. shingle Alchemy Television and was deputy managing director of 12 Yard Productions, will be responsible for developing NBC’s international production strategy and beefing up revenue via corporate acquisition, organic growth and international format development.
The new topper, who steps into the breach at the firm’s London HQ following the surprise departure of production prexy Denise O’Donoghue last month, also worked at the BBC, where he oversaw international roll outs of such hits as “The Weakest Link” and “Dog Eat Dog.”
Part of his job will be to build on the acquisition of U.K. drama specialist, Carnival Films, bought in 2008.
While Beale’s expertise in the international format business will be a plus for the U.S. studio’s London-based TV activities, NBC said it was still seeking a replacement for O’Donoghue, who was president of the international TV division.
