LONDON — BBC Worldwide Channels announced Tuesday the appointment of Deepak Shourie as director, South Asia.
Shourie will be based in New Delhi and take responsibility for its operations across the region.
Exec joins the BBC from Discovery Communications India where he was managing director. During his time there he launched Discovery Travel & Living in India and was responsible for the company’s joint distribution venture with Sony Entertainment Television, India. Before that he had stints with Zee TV as CEO and the Hindustan Times newspaper group as executive president.
Earlier, Shourie was group general manager at Living Media, publishers of magazine India Today. He quit that to launch its main competitor, Outlook.
Shourie will work with the BBC’s senior management team in Singapore and London and report to Mark Whitehead, senior VP and general manager of BBC Worldwide Channels Asia.
