Exec held key roles for Dow Jones, WNBA, VH1 and Nick

BBC Worldwide America has named former Dow Jones exec Ann Sarnoff chief operating officer. She will report to former Viacom colleague and BBC Worldwide America prexy Herb Scannell.

Sarnoff will oversee advertising and affiliate sales for BBC America, along with digital assets including digital syndication and BBC.com. She is Scannell’s second senior exec appointment, following the August hiring of Perry Simon as general manager, channels.

Prior to serving as president of Dow Jones Ventures and senior veep of strategy for Dow Jones, Sarnoff was COO for the WNBA. She has also been COO at VH1/CMT and exec veep of the multibillion-dollar consumer products and business development departments at Nickelodeon (“Rugrats,” “Blues Clues”), where she also led the development teams behind TV Land and Noggin.

She worked for Viacom companies for 10 years, beginning in 1993.”Ann is one of the smartest business people I’ve worked with and one of the most collaborative,” Scannell said. “She’s a true business builder. We have great potential for the BBC in America. With the addition of Ann on the business side and Perry’s editorial skills, we have the perfect team to realize it.”
