Authorities probe film fraud allegations

Hungarian customs officials detain Koltai

BUDAPEST — Hungary’s Customs and Finance Office have detained producer Gabor P. Koltai over allegations of fraud totaling HUF 4 billion ($19 million).

According to Hungarian news service Index, Koltai was picked up on Nov. 8, and is still custody, although Variety has been unable to confirm this through Koltai’s lawyers or family.

Koltai and two other unnamed associates are accused of allegedly submitting fraudulent documents and receipts through three production companies — Filmsziget, Wyvern and RenCon Media — to secure funding for 35 movies over the past three years.

Of these, officials state that only four have been made, including “Magic Boys,” which stars Michael Madsen and Vinnie Jones.
