Caribbean isle's first fest pays tribute to director

Helmer Bernardo Bertolucci will receive the Golden Aruba award for outstanding achievement in film from the inaugural Aruba Film Festival, which runs June 4 to 11.

Bertolucci will travel to the Caribbean island, 17 miles off the coast of Venezuela, to receive the new fest’s most prestigious award as well as participate in its “In Conversations With” series alongside celebs led by Richard Gere and Guillermo Arriaga.

Gere is also receiving a humanitarian award and hosting the fest, which will showcase a mix of indie and Hollywood pics plus panels and workshops.

Fest is backed by government funding and sponsor donations and is organized by Aruba Film Prods. Italian producer Giuseppe Cioccarelli and local filmmaker Jonathan Vieira are fest producers.
