Animax gets original show

Sony commissions 'Qube' for the international channel

Sony Pictures Television has commissioned its first original series for its Animax channel, which airs in some 60 countries.

Hosted by Maria Sansone and Tom Hatton, “In the Qube” is a half-hour entertainment magazine produced by Embassy Row for distribution on every platform — broadcast, Web, console and mobile.

It’s a fast-paced trip around the world featuring movies, vidgames, music, freestyle sports and international celebrities.

Embassy prexy and show’s producer Michael Davies, said, “In the Qube” will “reflect contemporary youth culture and lifestyle, highlighting emerging and popular entertainment, as well as a wide array of lifestyle technologies.”

The show, targeted at auds age 14-29, is expected to premiere in several territories in March. It will also air on Sci Fi Channel Australia and the PlayStation Network in Europe.

Marie Jacobson, SPT exec VP, programming and production, international networks, said, ” ‘In the Qube’ will strive to bring our global audiences up to speed on what’s hip and happening the world over.”
