Anchor Bay takes ‘Horrible Way’

Distrib nabs all English-language rights

TORONTO — Anchor Bay Films has nabbed all English-language rights to Adam Wingard’s stylish low-budget chiller “A Horrible Way to Die.”

The deal, which covers the U.S., Canada, U.K. and Australia, was negotiated by Celluloid Nightmares’ Nate Bolotin and Travis Stevens, and Anchor Bay’s Bill Clark, Kevin Kasha, James Shapiro and Richard Turner during the Toronto film festival, where pic world preemed in the Vanguard program on Sept. 14.

Penned by Simon Barrett, “Horrible Way” follows an escaped serial killer as he searches for his ex-girlfriend and stars A.J. Bowen, Amy Seimetz and Joe Swanberg.

A theatrical release is part of the deal but has yet to be announced.

At Toronto, Celluloid Nightmares’ also represents North American rights to docu “Machete Maidens Unleashed!” and international rights to Midnight Madness opener “Fubar II: Gods of Blunder,” which Alliance opens in Canada Oct. 1.
