Spanish actress Elena Anaya will star opposite Antonio Banderas in Pedro Almodovar’s “La piel que habito.”
Vet Spanish thesp Marisa Paredes (“All About My Mother”) has also joined the cast, said sources at Pedro and brother Agustin Almodovar’s shingle El Deseo.
Produced by Agustin Almodovar, “La piel” is scheduled to roll in Spain from August for 10 weeks.
“La piel” turns on a plastic surgeon who exacts terrible revenge on the man who raped his daughter. It’s a loose adaptation of “Mygale,” a 1995 novel by French writer Thierry Jonquet.
Almodovar first announced “La piel” in 2002, hoping it would star Banderas and Penelope Cruz. Anaya’s lead role in “Piel” will bear similarities to the role which Almodovar initially imagined for Cruz.
Anaya broke through in 2001 with Julio Medem’s “Sex and Lucia” and has already landed roles in Hollywood (“Van Helsing,” “In the Land of Women”). In 2002, she played a secondary role in Pedro Almodovar’s “Talk to Her.”
Anaya and Cruz share the same management firm, Katrina Bayonas and Antonio Rubial’s Kuranda Management, based in Los Angeles and Madrid.
“La piel” is Paredes’ sixth Almodovar movie, kicking off with his third film, “Entre tinieblas” (1983).
