Stein to help management firm's clients expand reach abroad

3 Arts Entertainment is going international, tapping Carrie Stein to head up a new global management and packaging arm.

Stein, the former CEO of Alchemy TV, will work with existing 3 Arts clients in expanding their reach abroad, while also looking at bringing in producers, writers and directors from outside the U.S.

“It feels like the world is going in this direction,” said 3 Arts parter Michael Rotenberg. “What intrigues me is our ability to bring our clients more ownership of their product… We’ll have the ability to go to the domestic buyers and tell them that we can bring financing to the table. This allows us to more and more become partners with the buyers.”

Stein comes to 3 Arts with loads of international experience and relationships, having spent four years as head of Alchemy TV, which specialized in international co-productions. Alchemy’s “Coco Chanel,” for example, was a co-production between Lifetime, Rai and France 2, while “Ben Hur” was produced for ABC, CBC, Pro Sieben, A3 and Sony Home Entertainment.

Under Stein’s watch, Alchemy also acquired international rights to the CTV/CBS cop drama “Flashpoint,” generally considered one of the most successful of primetime’s current U.S./Canada co-productions.

While at Alchemy, Stein said she wrote up a business plan for a management division. After departing in August, she kept pursuing the idea.

“I looked at how best to do it, and ultimately thought it was best to work with a management company,” she said. “What I liked about 3 Arts is that they got it instantly.”

By bringing Stein on board, 3 Arts partner Howard Klein added, the company now has the opportunity to navigate “the complicated process of financing and packaging co-productions, enabling our clients to focus on producing great content.”
